Dead fetus found in NJ sewage plant

June 1, 2009 11:26:19 AM PDT
Newark police say workers have found a dead fetus at a northern New Jersey sewage plant. The Newark Police Department's homicide squad is investigating, and an autopsy is planned. Police did not release details about the gender, viability or development of the fetus.

Todd McClendon, a Newark police spokesman, says the fetus was discovered Monday morning in sewage coming into the Passaic Valley Sewage Plant near Port Newark. He says there are no definitive indications a crime was committed.

The sewage plant serves 30 communities in three different counties.
