Bronx family gets slithery scare

BRONX The 4-foot-long, tan serpent was spotted in the fourth-floor apartment on Gerard Avenue just before 8 a.m.

The snake slithered under a living room table, sending the Dominguez family scrambling.

The mother and her three children watched the snake make its way around the apartment for an hour.

Responding police officers eventually trapped it with a broom and a plastic bag.

The snake did not appear to be poisonous. Animal Control identified the snake as a Yellow Rat Snake.

They are non-poisonous and common in the pet trade. They come from the Southern US, Florida and the Gulf Coast.

It was taken to Animal Care and Control.
