A Long Island mother is facing charges after police say she left her two young children in the car while she shopped at Costco. The woman, from Wading River, apparently left her 2-year-old twins in the car for at least 45 minutes. One of the children reportedly has Down syndrome.

Suffolk County cops responded to a report of two children left in a vehicle that was locked and running in the Costco Parking lot located at 125 Beacon Drive in Holbrook at about 12:05 p.m.

One of the officers broke the front right window of the vehicle to get the children out. They were transported by Holbrook Rescue to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center to be evaluated.

The mother, 40-year-old Lynn Hoenig, was arrested upon returning to her vehicle and charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
