ASPCA: Kitty burned alive in oven

NEW YORK "She knew the cat was in the oven struggling to get out. Crying out and scratching to get out." said ASPCA Assistant Director Joseph Pentangelo.

According to Pentangelo, 17 year old Cheyenne Cherry and an unidentified juvenile cranked up the oven's temperature, walked out and left a two month old kitten named Tiger Lily to die.

"She said she doesn't like cats and she was playing a practical joke," said Pentangelo.

According to ASPCA officials, last month Cherry and another teen broke into a former friend's home in the Bronx and trashed the apartment on Tinton Avenue. People who live in the neighborhood said they had no idea the kitten was suffering a long and painful death.

"It was a surprise for me. I said a cat," said Luis Genao.

Cherry's brother David told Eyewitness News the animal cruelty charges were dropped against his sister, and the real kitty killer set up his sister.

"She's not an animal hater, we have a yorkie," said David.

But the ASPCA confirmed Cherry is still charged with animal cruelty, reckless endangerment and burglary. If convicted, she faces up to 10 years if convicted.
