Supermarket workers save the day

Two grocery store employees on Long Island are being celebrated as heroes for helping a woman who was mugged. The workers sprang into action and chased down a man who stole the woman's purse in a parking lot of an IGA supermarket in Copiague. They were working at the supermarket on Saturday when they first noticed the elderly woman in distress. High school student Ryan Harrigan was outside pushing carts and was the first to chase after the suspect.

"I started running," said Ryan.

Laurie Pelzer witnessed the incident from beginning to end.

"The woman just stood there my purse he has my purse and they went after him, said Laurie. .

Racing to the back of the supermarket, Ryan Harrigan caught up with the suspect and tackled him. He was identified by police as Louis Mancini. .

But in the end, Mancini was no match for the Harrigan brothers. Both are athletes and play football and lacrosse. .

Now the friends are celebrating their new status and those who witnessed their bravery say they deserve every bit of recognition.
