Facebook to offer vanity urls

NEW YORK From the beginning of Facebook, people have used their real names to share and connect with the people they know.

Until now, the URL associated with each person or page was just a randomly assigned number like "id=592952074." That soon will change.

Starting at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, Facebook will allow people to use their username as part of the URL in their browser.

You will be able to choose a username on a first-come, first-serve basis by visiting www.facebook.com/username/.

Users will also see a notice on their home pages with instructions for obtaining a username at that time.
