Paralyzed LI cop appears at DWI trial

MINEOLA Nassau County Police Officer Kenneth Baribault can only speak in single syllables and is partially paralyzed. He had been expected to testify Tuesday, but instead appeared during testimony from his doctor, who detailed the officer's injuries.

Baribault had stopped one driver for suspected drunken driving on the Long Island Expressway last May. Authorities say a second vehicle driven by Rahiem Griffin slammed into the rear of the police car.

Griffin is charged with second-degree assault.
