MASTIC BEACH --
Five family members have been arrested and their Long Island home condemned after seven children were found to be living in what police said was squalor. Suffolk County police said the Mastic Beach house had no running water, heat or hot water, and animal feces littered the floors.
They said rotting food was in the refrigerator and soda bottles filled with urine were in the halls.
The children ranged in age from 2 to 13. They were placed in the custody of Child Protective Services.
The five adult family members, arrested Thursday, faced charges of endangering the welfare of a child.
