Water main break floods streets

BRONX A spokeswoman for the city Department of Environmental Protection said the break at Broadway and West 231st Street happened around 4:30 a.m. Sunday.

Mercedes Padilla said the water was shut off and a crew dispatched to fix the problem. She said water pressure in the area would be low for several hours.

The fire department used pumps to remove water, and utility workers were checking underground electrical and gas equipment for damage.

Officials were trying to pinpoint the location and cause of the break to make repairs.
