Thousands pack Puerto Rican Parade

NEW YORK Hundreds of thousands of revelers wearing and waving the flag of the Caribbean island crowded the thoroughfare Sunday for the National Puerto Rican Day Parade.

Celebrities and politicians walked with colorful floats and marching bands. Ten ox pulling five wagons were brought over from the town of Mayaguez.

Parade king and salsa star Victor Manuelle says the parade is the most important event in the country for Puerto Ricans.

This year's parade comes after the nomination of New York-born Puerto Rican Sonia Sotomayor to the U.S. Supreme Court.

The judge wasn't at the parade, but many celebrants said her nomination was a proud moment for all Latinos.
