Armed robbers strike Katonah jewelers

June 17, 2009 2:40:38 PM PDT
An armed robbery in broad daylight. It would be brazen anywhere, but in Katonah it's downright shocking. Around 11:30 Wednesday morning, two suspects walked into Katonah Jewelers, pulled out guns and ordered everyone to the floor.

The owner of the store wasn't there yet, but three employees were.

"They put a gun to the jewelers head. Their wrists were tied with plastic strapping tape and they were put into the bathroom," Claudia Kable, the store owner, said.

The robbery took place in the heart of Katonah, two doors down from a cafe where people were eating outdoors.

Inside the store, the suspects stole personal jewelry from them as well as rings and watches from the store.

"They weren't nice. They told the girls if they said anything or tried to do anything, they would never see their children again," Kable said.

Despite the threat, one of the employees managed to trip a silent alarm. Police responded, but not before the suspects got away.

Late this afternoon police were questioning one suspect after a fender bender in the Bronx.

Meantime, the unlikely scene of crime scene units in the sleepy little village continued to play out.
