Newark raises parking fines

NEWARK The Newark City Council raised the penalty for violations to $45 to raise revenue and help offset a projected budget deficit. That's a $20 increase for those who park at an expired meter.

Free holiday parking rules will remain in effect. The council feared eliminating the privilege would hurt downtown businesses.
