NYC presents Kids Restaurant Week

NEW YORK Two magazines have gotten together and teamed with 26 area restaurant to offer special family dining menus and prices in New York City.

One such place is Telepan, a high-end eatery that at first glance doesn't seem like the kind of place you'd bring your kids.

"I want to encourage people to come bring their kids here in a nice environment," owner Bill Telepan said.

Telepan wants families to dine at his restaurant with their little ones, and he's created a menu that appeals to both age groups. For adults--chicken, for children-- also chicken, but the recipe is more kid-friendly.

These foods are among the items Bill is offering as part of NYC Kids Restaurant Week. It's sponsored by both "Gourmet" and "Cookie" magazines with the hopes of getting families to dine together.

Zarela Martinez' restaurant, Zarela, has lots for children to look at, and her food is kid appealing, too.

"The food is meant to be shared," said Zarela.

Wildwood Barbecue is serving up a kids' sampler that's sure to satiate, and pit master Big Lou says with BBQ, it's okay to get messy.

At all the participating restaurants, adults and kids 12 and up pay $29. But kids 11 and younger pay their age.

So whether they're getting messy or learning how to be refined diners, Kids Restaurant Week is a good time to grab the family and eat out.
