Under the supervision of Capital One professionals, the bank is staffed by Leadership Academy students who are paid 11 dollars an hour to work here an average of ten hours a week.
"Being a bank teller was never even a career option until this program came, and now that I have the experience, working in the bank is a marvelous thing," said student Michael Gray.
Student Soribel Diaz thinks so, too.
"I see myself in the banking world, I really do," she said.
The students must be seniors to participate in the program and are selected through a detailed application process.
"It's a series of interviews, it's writing a resume, it's doing a cover letter, there's an essay involved, so it really becomes a very real life experience for these kids, " said David Isaac.
The interns on the banking staff do more than work at the bank, they help to teach financial literacy here at the school, and sometimes they serve as financial advisers to their fellow students.
They have developed a computer game based on the game show, "Jeopardy" which takes students through key questions in managing their personal finances.
"Learning how to manage your money teaches you the value of money, once you actually know how to handle it, and I think, at a young age, that very much important to know," said student Isaac Ofori.
Capital One says it will open another school-based branch in September, at a Manhattan high school.
