Body found in Passaic River

PASSAIC, N.J. The unidentified body was reported to police by a passerby at 5:40 p.m. on Sunday, police said.

Investigators did not know if the body was that of a 44-year-old Waldwick woman who was reported missing by her husband on Thursday.

Her unlocked minivan - with her purse, keys and other personal items still inside - was found later that day at a marina in the Bergen County community of Elmwood Park.

Divers and rescue crews then searched the river for several hours on both Thursday and Friday before the search was suspended for the weekend.

Authorities have refused to say whether they believe the woman, who has three children, was still alive or provide further details on her disappearance.
