Two bodies pulled from Passaic River

NEW JERSEY One was a 44-year-old woman, while the other was a little girl

Fishermen found the little girl's body in a plastic bag along the wooded shores of the Passaic River.

Clifton police spent all afternoon on Sunday under the Ackerman Avenue Bridge investigating the death of the two-year-old. The area has now been closed off.

There is no shortage of garbage littering the area near the river. What exactly sparked the curiosity of the fishermen to open that plastic bag has not been explained.

Investigators are awaiting autopsy results to learn how the girl died, how long ago, and perhaps who she was.

Police said they are also studying surveillance camera video.

Meantime, the body of the woman was found early Sunday evening.

Elmwood Park police have confirmed it is 44-year-old Beverly Spano of Waldwick, New Jersey.

The woman's van was found near the river last Friday with her purse and keys inside.

Investigators believe she committed suicide.
