Family pulls plug on Christmas display

NORTH BABYLON, N.Y. Andrew Spadafora, a retired truck driver, says it will break his heart to keep the 900-piece display in storage.

The Long Island family is still paying off last year's $41,000 tab.

The display had raised more than $181,000 since 2002 for Schneider Children's Hospital in New Hyde Park. The family now asks that donations go directly to the hospital.

It took Spadafora and six paid workers 15 weeks each fall to build the display. Other costs included 34 security cameras, electrical upgrades and roof repairs.
