Worker injured on Throgs Neck Bridge

QUEENS He was doing work underneath the roadway when he was hit by a piece of scaffolding, according to the MTA.

The work had nothing to do with repairs from Friday's fire.

All southbound lanes were temporarily shut down while the fire department rescued the worker.

The incident happened shortly before 10 a.m.

The fire department transported the worker to Elmhurst Hospital in serious condition with head injuries, but they're not believed to be life threatening.

It's not clear if the worker fell, or if equipment fell on him.

The fire department says they found the worker 20 feet below the bridge on scaffolding.
