Two pedestrians on Long Island were struck by an out-of-control taxi that ended up crashing into a building. The victims, a mother and son from Bay Shore, were seriously injured in the crash. The mother had to have her leg amputated. The taxi ended up in a building lobby.

The incident happened at 1:15 a.m. Monday near the corner of Fulton Avenue and Franklin Street in Hempstead.

The driver, 23-year-old Jose Gonzalez, was charged with driving under the influence of narcotics. Authorities say alcohol was not a factor.

Dilenia Jiminez, 39, lost her leg. Eli Grullon, 20, suffered severe injuries to his arm.
