It's hard to imagine feeling like you're at the beach when you're in Manhattan, but the new Water Taxi Beach at the South Street Seaport is where you might like to moor for a couple of hours. There's mini golf, ski ball and even ping pong. But the sand is what really brings it all together.
Another place to cool off is Studio Square in Long Island City. It's a beer hall of epic proportions. It holds more than 1,000 outside. And for those rainier days, there are about another 1,000 inside. And there's a heck of a lot of beer that always stays cold, all they way from storage to the time it hits your glass.
In Brooklyn, bowling is the thing. Brooklyn Bowl has a retro feel, but it's state of the art. There are eco-friendly lanes and a stage for performances. Some top acts already booked. And there's food from Blue Ribbon. So if the weather strikes the wrong way, head inside to Brooklyn Bowl.
All the places family-friendly in one way or another. The beer hall has, of course, other items to drink and eat, and kids can come with their parents. The Water Taxi Beach is open to families and, in the evening, there are special events for adults only. Brooklyn Bowl is for adults, except for weekend days, when kids are welcome as well.
