Drives held for young man with cancer

NEW YORK The 32-year-old Haupt was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML), a rare and aggressive blood cancer and he's in urgent need of a bone marrow transplant.

There are currently no donor matches for Jonathan in the existing bone marrow registries.

"We don't have time to wait for a miracle – we have to enable a miracle to happen by getting as many people to register as possible," said Michael Wexler, Jonathan's Cousin and New York native who is co-organizing the New York City drives. "We want to see Jonathan return to the normal, wonderful life he was enjoying just months ago before his diagnosis, but we need the help of the entire New York area to make that happen."

The New York drives will be held:

  • Thursday, July 16 at the JCC of Manhattan from 3-8 p.m. The JCC is located at 334 Amsterdam Ave. @ 76th street.
  • Sunday, July 19 at Birthright Israel from 10a.m.-4 p.m. at 38 W 13th Street.
  • Tuesday, July 21, 2-9 p.m. at the Chesed Center at 271 Kingston Ave. in Brooklyn

Jonathan's friends and family have launched

  • TEAM HAUPT Team Haupt Website to find Jonathan's donor and are partnering with DKMS, the world's largest bone marrow donor center, to host drives throughout the country during the month of July.
