He was stabbed numerous times with a screwdriver and rushed to Lutheran Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Eyewitness News is told Saavedra and his 12-year-old friend were confronted by a group of teens in a park at East 13th Street and Avenue V.
The boys reportedly ran from the group, with the suspect following them on a bicycle.
The young suspect apparently caught up with his victim blocks later and attacked. He then fled the scene on the bike. He was described as a male Hispanic wearing black shorts.
No arrests were immediately made.
Police say the victim may have been in an argument with the attacker or a member of his group over the weekend.
