Car jumps curb, hits pedestrians

A car jumped a curb in West New York and careened into a group of pedestrians Sunday.The incident happened at 57th Street and Bergenline Avenue.

Seven people were injured, ranging in age from 16 to 65. The extent of the victims' injuries and the exact cause of the crash is unknown at this time, but authorities say the 43-year-old driver was charged with driving under the influence.

A 44-year-old man was briefly trapped under the vehicle.

Police say it is lucky more people were not hurt in the crash. The sidewalks were teeming with people out enjoying the day, and stores were taking part in a sidewalk sale.
