Funeral for slain NJ detective today

JERSEY CITY It was a huge turnout and an emotional tribute for the Jersey City police officer killed in the line of duty on Thursday.

Family, friends and law enforcement officers from all around New Jersey gathered for the wake of Detective /*Mark DiNardo*.

DiNardo, a 10-year veteran of the Jersey City force, was pronounced dead Tuesday, one day before his 38th birthday.

The married father of three young children was shot in the face during a July 16 gun battle with two armed robbery suspects. Both suspects were killed in the shootout, which left several other officers wounded.

Hundreds attended a blood drive that his family organized in his memory on Wednesday. New Jersey Blood Services says it was the second-largest single-day blood drive in the agency's 35-year history.
