Three charged in murders, assault

CENTRAL ISLIP Police say the three suspects had been hunting for rival gang members.

They are allegedly responsible for a vicious crime spree that left 2 innocent people dead and a 13 year old boy seriously injured.

Alexander Aguila, 18; Edwin Ortiz, 19; and Jose Gomez Amaya, 20, are charged with murder and assault.

Prosecutors say the suspects were involved in a gang initiation ritual.

The latest victim was 28-year-old Edgar Villalobos. The father of three was tortured, stabbed and killed with knives and a machete on Patton Street in Brentwood.

Alexander Aguilar is accused of shooting 13 year old Wilson Batista in the head back in June. The boy was playing on a basketball court. Police say the suspects shot at the group because they thought they were members of the Bloods.

Batista's father told us the crime destroyed his family.

All three suspects were arraigned in First District Court in Central Islip on Friday.

Some local lawmakers want an inquiry into the treatment of his body. A union leader suggested the crime scene delay was partly related to a new staffing policy. But Police Commissioner Richard Dormer says extensive evidence caused an "enormous challenge" for technicians.
