19 arrested in CT bird fighting ring

Police in Connecticut say they've seized more than 100 canaries and arrested 19 people in connection with an alleged bird fighting operation in Shelton. Town police say occupants of a home on Ripton Road were preparing the birds to fight Sunday morning when they were arrested. The suspects' names and the charges were not immediately released.

Authorities kept the road closed most of the day as animal control officials put the canaries in large cages and brought them to another location.

Neighbors say they were surprised because they had no idea bird fighting was allegedly occurring at the home.
