Due to heavy rainfall, more than a dozen beaches are closed on Long Island. The Nassau County Department of Health closed 16 North Shore Beaches and two on the South Shore for Monday.

Storm water runoff can have a negative impact by elevating bacteria levels that are used to assess bathing water quality.

Closed South Shore Beaches:

Hewlett Point Beach
Island Park Beach

Closed North Shore Beaches:

Bar Beach
Centre Island Bay
Centre Island Sound
Creek Club
Laurel Hollow
Lattingtown Beach
Morgan Sound
Piping Rock Beach Club
Prybil Beach
Ransom Beach
Roosevelt Beach
Sea Cliff Village Beach
Soundside Beach
Stehli Beach
Tappen Beach
West Harbor Beach

In addition, Crescent Beach in the City of Glen Cove remains closed due to elevated bacteria.
