LI woman faces animal abuse charges

A Long Island woman is facing criminal charges after telling authorities she found an emaciated stray dog. Records later indicated the woman was the animal's rightful owner.

Three more dogs were found in poor health inside the woman's Medford home.

Donna Mungo was arrested Wednesday and charged with abusing and failing to feed her animals.

An investigation began in May after Mungo brought her malnourished dog to a town animal shelter. She said it was a stray, but a microchip implanted in the animal later revealed Mungo was the owner.

She was scheduled to be arraigned at a later date. The name of her attorney was not immediately available.
