Woman falls to death trying to enter apartment

NEW YORK What is clear is that what may have seemed like her only option, proved to be a fatal decision.

Police say the 37 year old victim took the stairs up to the roof of 152 West 76th street, a brownstone between Amsterdam and Columbus.

She then grabbed a cable wire and tried to use it as a rope to lower herself into the window of a fourth floor apartment.

It was a maneuver probably best left to a Hollywood stuntman. The woman lost her grip and plummeted 40 feet to her death in the back courtyard.

"She must have been crazy to climb from the fourth floor," Nelly Smith said.

Police still have not released the victim's name. Neighbors say she was dating a man on the fourth floor here and they always remember her walking her dog.
