Prisoner says DNA test proves innocence

NEW YORK Court papers say William McCaffrey's accuser has told a priest and prosecutor that she lied.

The Exoneration Initiative, a nonprofit legal group, wants a Manhattan judge to vacate McCaffrey's conviction.

McCaffrey's lawyer, Glenn A. Garber, says the woman could refuse to testify again out of fear she'll be charged with perjury.

Chief Assistant District Attorney Mark Dwyer says the DA's office is investigating.

Defense lawyer Emiliano Marino called McCaffrey's conviction "unjust" in 2006. He said the victim's description did not match his client, and there was no DNA evidence that incriminated him.
