The Altmans died last weekend when their plane collided with a helicopter carrying Italian tourists near New York City. All six people in the helicopter also died.

Daniel Altman's other son, Max, spoke at the service and thanked the rescuers who recovered the bodies of his father and younger brother. He called his father and brother "the two greatest people I know."

Steven Altman, 60, of Ambler, and Daniel Altman, 49, of Dresher, worked in the family real estate business. Douglas Altman would have been a sophomore in high school this year.

Several speakers described Steven Altman as the "book smart" brother who enjoyed basketball and skiing and Daniel Altman as the "street smart" brother with good business instincts and a passion for golfing with his two sons.

Steven Altman set out from a suburban Pennsylvania airstrip on Aug. 8 and made a stop at the airport in Teterboro, N.J., before flying on with Daniel and Douglas on the 114-mile flight to the beach town of Ocean City, N.J.

The trio had just taken off and were flying over the Hudson when the plane crashed into the helicopter.

Steven Altman owned Altman Management Co., which oversaw more than 14,000 apartments in Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey, according to the company Web site. It was part of a company his father started in 1949.
