Both vehicles then veered into the southbound lanes and collided head-on with a car driven by Juan Acosta-Boli, who was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in Santos' vehicle, Wendy Marte of Paterson, later died at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center.
Two other passengers in Santos' car and the driver of the third car, Fernando Marte-Moran, sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Santos, a 24-year-old Paterson resident, was charged with two counts of driving with a suspended license causing death and one count of driving with a suspended license causing serious bodily injury.
