Woman, 64, beaten in Manhasset

MANHASSET "She was such a good person. I don't know why anyone would do this to her," the victim's daughter said as she wept.

Why would anyone want to hurt 64 year old Ruthell Williams? She was described as a sweet and loving grandmother who lived alone in Manhasset.

A neighbor said they could hear screaming and a lot of noise around 4:30 in the morning on Sunday.

Police found the victim unconscious in her bed. According to investigators, there was no sexual assault, no forced entry and no signs of ransacking.

Investigators said she appeared to have been struck in the head with a pipe or similar object.

Those who know her say Williams spent a lifetime giving.

She is retired from the NYPD as a civilian employee and spent her golden years serving her family and babysitting her grandchildren.

She recently renovated her home on Cherry Brook Place so she could move her aging parents in with her and care for them as well.

The victim remained in a medically induced coma on Monday night.
