Just Ask Marlene for teens and tweens

NEW YORK The books aren't written by a psychologist, a teacher or even a parent. They're written, instead, by a woman who deals with professional models every day. And she comes to the table with some interesting perspectives.

Marlene Wallach is the owner of the Wilhelmina Modeling Agency for kids and teens, and she's come to understand what girls go through as they go from being kids to tweens to teens.

And so she decided to turn what she knows into a series of books. The subjects include health, fashion, beauty and self-esteem. And they are filled with advice, quizzes, projects and photos.

Wallach also launched a companion Web site called Just Ask Marlene.

She's sort of like a mother figure, friend and big sister rolled into one. And while Marlene doesn't have any kids of her own, she does lay claim to those on her office walls...

"I have 250 kids," she said. "Aren't I the lucky one?"

She's hoping that girls who may never come through her agency are encouraged by her books, to feel as beautiful and as happy and as confident as possible.

There are four books in the series. They sell for $12.99 each and are available at bookstores now. For more information, visit JustAskMarlene.com.
