Diane Moore alerted officials after stumbling upon hundred of needles on a school playground.
Moore was walking her two grandchildren to school when she stumbled upon the needles. She says any child cutting through the playground could have gotten into the hazardous waste.
Sources close to the investigation say the medical waste appeared to be stolen and included well over 100 needles, viles of blood and medication.
Crime scene investigators cordoned off the area looking for fingerprints
"An uncapped needle could puncture your skin and contaminate you," Kevin Beyrer of Suffolk police said.
A parent found the dumped bags on the northeast corner of the school's property and called authorities around 9:30 Monday morning.
Some of the bags were closed, but others had been opened and medical waste was scattered around the area.
Investigators were trying to determine the source of the waste by tracking serial numbers on some of the vials.
