Air conditioner stirs up fire in NYC

An air conditioner exploded in flames in a Washington Heights apartment building. Eyewitness News is told the fire broke out inside an apartment at 765 Riverside Drive just before 2:15 a.m.

One resident said an air conditioner burst into flames that tore through an apartment.

Officials say two boys who saw the fire helped evacuate residents from the building.

A 77-year-old woman was reportedly taken at the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The fire is under investigation.
