Suspect identified in shooting of girl

NEWARK, N.J. Police are looking for 32 year-old Curtis Daniels. Investigators believe he was one of the shooters during an exchange of gunfire outside an apartment complex along Irvine Turner Boulevard in Newark Tuesday afternoon.

The girl was hit by one of the bullets as she played in the courtyard. She remained in critical but stable condition on Friday.

The Department's Major Crimes Unit made the first arrest of 26 year-old Rasheed Nelson within hours after the shooting. Nelson went to UMDNJ suffering a gun shot wound the hand.

Nelson, who has several arrests for drug-related offenses, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose for his role in the incident.

Police are still seeking at least three to four additional suspects in this case and believe Daniels is one of the suspects in the carjacked Audi which fled the scene of the shooting. That vehicle was found a short time later abandoned on Barclay Street/Montgomery Street.

Anyone with information on the identities and/or the whereabouts of Daniels and/or the other suspects in this vehicle is urged to call the Department's 24-hour "Crime Stoppers" anonymous tip line at 877 NWK-TIPS (877 695-8477) or NWK-GUNS (877 695-4867).
