NEW YORK CITY - SEPTEMBER 11th COMMEMORATION CEREMONY
New York City's observance will take place at Zuccotti Park, on Liberty Street between Broadway and Church streets, on the morning of Friday, September 11th. The ceremony will officially begin at 8:40 a.m. Families of those who died on September 11th may start arriving at 7 a.m. In honor of the new federal designation of September 11th as a National Day of Service and Remembrance, family members will be paired with volunteers from throughout the five boroughs to read the names of the victims. This represents the tremendous spirit of compassion that unified our City and our Nation in the months following the tragedy and that continues in the form of NYC Service, the Mayor's wide-ranging program to increase volunteerism in the City. Music will provide a backdrop throughout the program. The ceremony will pause at four moments - twice to mark the times that each plane hit the towers, and twice to mark the time when each tower fell. The first moment of silence will be at 8:46 a.m., and houses of worship have been asked to toll their bells at that time. While the names are read, family members will be able to enter the WTC site and lay flowers where the National September 11th Memorial and Museum is being developed. The ceremony will conclude at approximately noon (this is subject to change). A preliminary outline of the event program is as follows (details and times subject to change):

10:29 a.m. - Moment of silence (observance of time of fall of the North Tower)

The "Tribute in Light" will return for one night as a tribute to all those who died on September 11th, as well as those who worked so hard to get our city through its darkest hour. The lights are located at West and Morris streets in Lower Manhattan. The lights will be on for one night on September 11, 2009, beginning at sunset and fading away at dawn on September 12th. There will be no formal program. The lights are best seen when it is completely dark; sunset is expected to occur at 7:11 p.m. that night, and sunrise is expected to occur at 6:34 a.m. on the morning of September 12th.
OTHER NEW YORK CITY AND TRI-STATE AREA MEMORIAL SERVICES AND EVENTS
NEW YORK CITY
MANHATTAN: The Trinity/St. Paul's parish will hold an all-night vigil at St. Paul's Chapel at Broadway and Fulton St. Beginning at midnight on Friday the chapel and the church's labyrinth will be open for prayer and meditation. St. Paul's Chapel will hold a memorial service at 12:30 p.m. Friday, and Trinity will hold a separate service at 12:05 p.m. at its main chapel at Wall St. and Broadway.
MANHATTAN: The Down Town Glee Club will perform at Trinity Church on Friday at 10:30 a.m. The Glee Club, a traditional choral group, performs a memorial concert annually at the church, and this year's performance will be broadcast live, by radio station WFUV. Admission to the concert is free.
MANHATTAN: Manhattan Youth has planned a memorial celebration in Battery Park City's Rockefeller Park on Thurs., Sept. 10 at 6:30 p.m. Several local musicians will perform, and speakers at the event will include Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, Rev. William Grant of Tribeca Spiritual Center and Rabbi Jonathan Glass of Synagogue for the Arts. The ceremony will also feature a performance by the Chinatown Dance Troupe.
MANHATTAN: September 11 , The 9-11 Memorial Floating Lanterns Ceremony from 6pm at Pier 40 - Hudson River at W. Houston St.
MANHATAN: September concert to fill the skies with music on september 11th. Simultaneous September Concerts in New York City, across America and worldwide.The skies will come alive with music as The September Concert Foundation organizes its eighth annual global day of music for peace on September 11, 2009. Professional and amateur musicians will perform music of all genres in all kinds of venues including parks and squares, schools, libraries, churches, office building lobbies and plazas, cafés, stores, and senior centers. All concerts are free to the public.

MANHATTAN: The Port Authority will hold an Interfaith Remembrance Service at St. Peter's Church, corner of Barclay and Church streets in Lower Manhattan, at 2 p.m. on Friday, September 11. The service will honor the 84 Port Authority employees who were killed on September 11, 2001, in the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, as well as the victims of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.
QUEENS: St. Michael's Cemetery.72-02 Astoria Blvd., East Elmhurst. Saturday, September 12, at 2 p.m., families and friends will join in honoring and remembering the members of the New York City Fire Department, Police Department and Port Authority Police Department who died responding to the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.
NEW JERSEY
EDGEWATER: Will hold a small service to commemorate the anniversary of September 11, 2001. The ceremony will be held on September 11, 2009 at 9:30 a.m. at the Veterans Field 911 Memorial Plaque site, which is located at the walking track.
JERSEY CITY: The New Jersey 9/11 Memorial Foundation will hold a reception at the Memorial site at Liberty State Park in Jersey City Friday September 11, 2009. The event will begin at 1:30 PM at the Railroad Terminal adjacent to the Memorial site.
NEWARK: Mayor Cory A. Booker, U.S. Senator Robert Menendez, the Newark Municipal Council, NJ National Guard Commander of the 254th Regiment Combat Arms Col. Walter Alvarado, G.I. Go Fund Executive Director Jack Fanous, Fire Chief Michael Lalor and other dignitaries will join with Newark residents to honor the victims and heroes of September 11th with a solemn "Day of Service and Remembrance" ceremony on the front steps of City Hall at 920 Broad Street, on Friday, September 11, 2009, at noon. In the event of inclement weather the ceremony will be moved to the City Hall Rotunda.
MIDDLETOWN TOWNSHIP: Friday, September 11, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. a remembrance ceremony at the Middletown World Trade Center Memorial Gardens in memory of the 37 residents who died in the World Trade Center Tragedy eight years ago. The evening will include a wreath laying ceremony followed by a reflective walk through the gardens. The ceremony will be held rain or shine. The gardens are located at 36 Church Street next to the Middletown Arts Center. Visitors can park at the Middletown Train Station.
JERSEY CITY: Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy, the Municipal Council and the Jersey City 9/11 Memorial Committee will observe the eighth annual 9/11 Memorial Service "Reflections," at 8:20 a.m. on Friday, September 11, 2009, at the Atrium at Harborside, 154 Plaza III, Harborside Financial Center on the Jersey City Waterfront (enter from Christopher Columbus Drive by Hudson Street)
PARSIPPANY: The director of the Morris County Prosecutor's Victim Witness Advocacy Unit will be the featured speaker at the county's public Remembrance Service and Candlelight Vigil on Sunday, Sept. 13, in observance of the 8th anniversary of 9/11. The ceremony that will begin at 7 p.m. at the Morris County September 11th Memorial on West Hanover Avenue in Parsippany-Troy Hills, across from Morris View Healthcare.
HOBOKEN: The city and the Hoboken Clergy Coalition will host its 9/11 Interfaith Memorial Service at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Pier A Park. The service, to recognize the 57 residents who lost their lives in the attacks, will be held at the Memorial Tree Grove near the entrance of the park. The event will be held rain or shine.
BAYONNE: The city's 9/11 memorial ceremony will be held at the Sept. 11 memorial at Harbor View Park, at the eastern end of the Peninsula at Bayonne Harbor (the former Military Ocean Terminal) Friday at 7 p.m. A shuttle bus will be provided from West 23rd Street and Del Monte Drive from 5:30 p.m. and free parking will be available at Parking Lot 4 only, from 4:30 p.m., at 23rd Street and Del Monte Drive. Parking is available next to Harbor View Park at the Peninsula at Bayonne Harbor beginning at 6 p.m.
JERSEY CITY: Empty Sky, State of New Jersey will have a reception in Liberty State Park in starting at 1:30 p.m. inside of the Railroad Terminal adjacent to the memorial. There will be music, light refreshments and opening remarks.
GUTTENBERG: The town will hold its 9/11 service at 7 p.m. on 6808 Park Avenue in front of Town Hall.
HARRISON/EAST NEWARK: At 7:15 p.m. Friday, the Harrison East Newark Elks Lodge 2326 will host a ceremony at the 9/11 monument in Liberty Park in Harrison. There will be a prayer service and candle-lighting. The 9/11 monument is located on Harrison Avenue next to the Post Office, near the library.
JERSEY CITY: The city will have its annual Reflections: 9/11 Memorial Ceremony on Friday on Grand Street by the Waterfront. Assembling will begin at 8 a.m., the program will begin at 8:20 a.m., with a breakfast reception to follow. For more information, call (201) 547-6921. For senior busing, call (201) 547-4361.
JOURNAL SQUARE: Slain Jersey City Police Detective Marc DiNardo will be among the inductees to the Circle of Honor at the 9/11 Memorial Fountain in Journal Square at 5 p.m. Friday. DiNardo died July 21 after being shot in the line of duty on July 16. The other 2009 inductees are former Jersey City Councilwoman Melissa Holloway, also being inducted posthumously, former McNair Academic High School Principal Robert Roggenstein, former director of senior affairs and former Jersey City Councilwoman Catherine Macchi, and City Clerk Robert Byrne.
NORTH BERGEN: A ceremony will be held at the high school at 9:15 a.m. Friday in memory of all who died on 9/11, particularly North Bergen High School graduates Christopher Amoroso (Class of 1990), Robert Cirri (1980) and Sal Edward Tieri (1978).
SECAUCUS: The town will hold a ceremony at the public library at 8:30 a.m. Friday. The library is located at 1379 Paterson Plank Road.
WEST NEW YORK: There will be a flag-raising at 8:46 a.m. Friday at Donnelly Park, which is on Boulevard East at 60th Street.
NEW YORK STATE
VALHALLA: County Executive Andy Spano will observe the eighth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. He will place a wreath at the center of The Rising memorial at Kensico Dam Plaza at 11:30 a.m. Friday as a symbol of unity. The Rising, is an 80-foot high stainless steel sculpture that honors the Westchester residents who died in the tragedies of September 11, 2001. On September 11th, the Memorial can be visited from dawn to 12 midnight and will be lit after dusk. Kensico Dam Plaza is located at the north end of the Bronx River Parkway in Valhalla.
YONKERS: The City of Yonkers will hold a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at 8:40 a.m. on Friday, September 11, 2009, in Washington Park, directly in front of City Hall on the South Broadway side. The ceremony will include remarks by Mayor Phil Amicone and Deputy Mayor William Regan and will mark two moments of silence at 8:46 a.m. and at 9:03 a.m., in memory of the flights that impacted the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.
VILLAGE OF FISHKILL: Friday - 8:30 a.m. Mayor James Miccio, Deputy Mayor Peter Phillips and the trustees of the Village of Fishkill will hold a memorial service on the steps of Van Wyck Hall at 1095 Main St.
HOPEWELL JUNCTION: Friday - 9 a.m. The Wiccopee Fire Company will hold a memorial service at the fire station at 6 West Hook Road.
TOWN OF FISHKILL: Friday - 9:25 a.m. The Town of Fishkill will hold a Remembrance ceremony at the memorial in front of the town police facility at 801 Route 52.
BEACON: Friday - 5 p.m. The City of Beacon Fire Department will hold a ceremony to honor the victims lost in the attacks on the World Trade Towers. There will be a reading of names of the FDNY firefighters, NYPD and Port Authority officers, and EMS personnel lost. The ceremony will be at the W.H. Mase Hook and Ladder Co. No. 1 at 425 Main St., Beacon.
POUGHKEEPSIE: Friday - 6 p.m. The Knights of Columbus is sponsoring a Patriot's Day Mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church to remember and honor all those who have and are serving our country. A reception in the lower church hall will follow.Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church is at 97 Mill St., Poughkeepsie.
VERBANK: Friday - 6 p.m. The Union Vale Fire Company is holding a special ceremony in remembrance of Friday, 2001. The ceremony will be held at the Fireman's Memorial/911 Memorial on Route 82, Verbank (across the street from the Union Vale Firehouse - Station 1).
HYDE PARK: Friday - 6:30 p.m. A candlelight remembrance for all who lost their lives will be held at the Paul Tegtmeier Memorial Site at Hackett Hill Park, Hyde Park.
EAST FISHKILL: Friday - 7 p.m. The East Fishkill Fire District will hold its annual Sept. 11 and Emergency Services Memorial Service at the East Fishkill Fire District Headquarters at 2502 Route 52, Hopewell Junction. There will be multiple speakers and a candlelight vigil.
HAVERSTRAW: Remarks by the Rockland county executive and the county Legislature chairwoman. There will be a moment of silence and the reading of the names of 9/11 victims. 8:30 a.m. Haverstraw Bay County Park, Gagan Road. 845-638-5495.

BABYLON: A 15-match kickboxing exhibition to raise money for maintenance of the 9/11 memorial at Cedar Beach, 3 p.m. Sunday, Overlook Beach.
EAST MEADOW: Nassau County 9/11 Memorial Foundation hosts a sunset ceremony, 6 p.m. Friday, Eisenhower Park.
EAST MEADOW: The Long Island Volunteer Center and Nassau University Medical Center co-sponsor a blood drive in memory of 9/11 victims, 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Nassau University Medical Center.

MOUNT SINAI: Ceremony to honor 9/11 victims and to announce an "Avenue of America" that will feature 80 state and national flags, 4:45 p.m. Friday, North Shore Heritage Park.
POINT LOOKOUT: The Town of Hempstead presents two 15-foot tall towers, a reflecting pool and a dove release, along with a speaker who lost two brothers on 9/11, 7:30 a.m. Friday, Town Park Point Lookout.
WANTAGH: The Town of Oyster Bay hosts a candlelight ceremony to honor residents lost on 9/11, 7 p.m. Friday, Tobay Beach.
CONNECTICUT
NEW MILFORD: Voices of September 11th Memorial Ceremonies to be held on Friday, September 11, 2009. The ceremonies will take place at Patriots Way Plaza in the New Milford Railroad station parking area. The service will commence at 8:48 AM.
