Two teens rescued from fire

BROOKLYN An intense kitchen fire in the Bathgate section forced firefighters to use a back window and a ladder to get two teenage boys out of a burning second floor apartment.

Flames had cut-off access to the front door, but firefighters were able to get around them and get to the trapped victims.

"When you can save somebody's life, somebody that you know without a doubt, 100 percent, would not have lived unless you were there, that's a good feeling," Lt. Thomas Carrera said.

Both of the victims were treated for smoke inhalation at a local hospital. Two police officers who tried to help before firefighters arrived also suffered minor injuries. A pot left on the stove apparently started the fire.
