Obama official pick to run NYC jails

NEW YORK Mayor Bloomberg spokesman Stu Loeser said Wednesday that Dora B. Schriro has been picked as the city's next jails commissioner.

Schriro was appointed in February as a special adviser to U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano. Schriro was tasked with improving the Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention system.

The Department of Homeland Security did not immediately confirm Schriro's departure from the agency.

Schriro's nearly three decades of experience in corrections includes running the Arizona and Missouri state prison systems.
