Grocery store worker killed during robbery

BRENTWOOD Police officers were called to Hermanos Grocery, located at 89 Timberline Drive in Brentwood, at 11:50 p.m. after a 911 caller reported that a man had been shot.

When police arrived, they found an employee of the store, Miguel Peralta, dead from a gunshot wound.

Detective Sgt. Thomas Groneman says that Peralta was mopping in the back of the store when two men wearing ski masks came in and announced a robbery.

He says it appears that Peralta tried to flee by running through the store to the front door. He never made it.

Two other workers were in the store, as well as one customer. No one else was hurt.

Groneman says the robbers likely got away with more than $1,000 in cash.

Detectives are asking anyone with information regarding this case to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS or the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392. All calls will be kept confidential.
