Newark police officer injured in chase

NEWARK The officer was apparently attempting to pull over a black Honda Accord near the intersection of Johnson Avenue and West Runyon Street just after 1 a.m.

Eyewitness News is told the Accord slammed into the police cruiser during the pursuit, striking the passenger's side.

The officer was rushed to University Hospital in stable condition with back pain.

Police say the suspect's vehicle also crashed, and he was taken into custody at the scene. He was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer.
