September 18, 2009 11:03:33 AM PDT
An overturned car caused traffic delays on the NJ Turnpike in Carlstadt. The vehicle flipped while northbound on the Turnpike's western spur, near Interchange 18W.

A military convoy pulled over to assist in the accident.

The 43rd Military Police and Army National Guard unit was heading back to Rhode Island from Pennsylvania at the time of the crash.

The convoy of 40 officers had just cleared the toll when the front vehicle noticed an overturned vehicle in the median.

Lt. Matthew Renehan pulled the convoy over and responded.

Officers put the fire out and pulled a woman out of the overturned vehicle. Some of the officers, who have medical training stabilized the victim.

Other officers stopped traffic and helped arriving local authorities get to the scene.

Lt. Renehan says they are not heroes, this is what they are trained to do.
