NYT: Obama asks Paterson to withdraw from race

The New York Times is reporting tonight that President Obama has sent a request to Governor David Paterson asking that he withdraw from the New York governor's race. The times reports that the decision to ask Paterson to step aside was proposed by the president's political advisers, but approved by the president himself.

So far -- no comment from the governor.
