One dead in car crash on tracks

A deadly car crash in the Bronx Sunday morning forced a shutdown of Metro North trains. It happened just before 6 a.m. in the Woodlawn section.

A car heading north on the Bronx River Parkway crashed through a guard rail near 233rd Street. It then rolled down an embankment and burst into flames on the Metro North tracks.

According to the fire department, one person inside the car was killed.

Power was cut off and service was halted for several hours on both the Harlem and New Haven lines.
