Schools may allow drug dogs after-hours

A Long Island school district may allow drug-sniffing dogs at high school buildings because of concerns about heroin use. If an agreement is finalized, Suffolk County police will train their dogs inside the Smithtown buildings after school hours, when students are no longer present.

County Executive Steve Levy says Smithtown is on the forefront of dealing with the problem of heroin in suburban communities.
