Woman loses relocation fight

NEWARK, N.J. It's being demolished and Olga had been a holdout for months. refusing to leave.

It's not the leaving that scares her so much as where Newark Housing Authority is moving her.

Riverview complex is three bus rides away, she says, from her elderly, ill mother, who showed up after learning Olga was to be forced out today.

Olga asked to be moved just a few blocks away to the same complex where her mother was relocated so she could continue to care for her. Tenants there told us that several units are vacant.

Activist Donna Jackson says Riverview is not only far, but dangerous and the family fears for Olga's safety.

The Housing Authority's director agreed to meet with Eyewitness News to talk about the decision to move Olga so far away from her mother.

While we were told to wait for the director in a downtown office building, the movers arrived at Olga's. We rushed back to the complex, and did not hear back from the Director.

A housing authority official told me by phone, they'd tried for months, but failed to work out a relocation that suited both Olga and the authority.
