Neighbor arrested in Bronx man's murder

BRONX When medics arrived at 370 E 153rd Street, the victim, stabbed repeatedly in the chest, had crawled to a stairwell. He was rushed to Lincoln Medical Center in critical condition. He died a few hours later.

Police identified him as Jerry Williams. He had lived here for decades and everyone knew him.

According to sources, Williams and Maxine Vereen, a friend and neighbor, had been drinking in his apartment. The couple got into a fight, and she allegedly stabbed him to death.

Vereen, 58, was arrested on Friday night.

Investigators initially thought Williams had been a robbery victim. They finally changed the lock today, on the door.

Residents say the lock has been broken for weeks.

Not only were the locks on both front doors broken, but investigators said the building has no surveillance cameras.
