Arrest in Upper East Side murder

UPPER EAST SIDE He was stabbed early Saturday morning on a sidewalk outside 301 East 75th Street.

"I'm very shocked at this tragedy," the victim's brother, Carlos Gaspar, said.

Omar Gaspar, 19, was stabbed once in the chest and killed by a young man who he did not know.

"He wanted to do big things in his life and he definitely wanted to succeed," Omar's brother said.

Gaspar was an aspiring boxer who had recently gone back to school to get his GED.

Early Saturday morning, he was out having a good time when he was attacked.

Gaspar and his two cousins were at an apartment party on the Upper East Side. They got into some sort of dispute with another group of men, which ended up on the sidewalk near 75th and 2nd Ave., where Gaspar was stabbed at 4 a.m.

The teenager died a short time later at New York Hospital.

On Sunday, police arrested Exequiel Reyes, 23, of the Bronx. He was charged with murder and related offenses.
