Chernobyl survivor killed in accident

An alleged drunk driver has killed a man who survived the Chernobyl disaster. Eugene Malinsky left work to pick up his stepson, but along the way, the alleged drunk driver slammed into his car.

The accident happened at 86th Street and 21st Avenue in Bensonhurst just before 2:30 a.m. Saturday.

Malinsky, 48, of Brooklyn, died at the scene. His 19-year-old stepson was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Police charged the driver of the other car, 26-year-old Jorge Cortes of Langham, Maryland, with manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and DWI.

Cortes was listed in critical condition at Lutheran Medical Center.
